Meta is gearing up to integrate generative AI technology — AI that can produce text, images, videos, and other data, similar to ChatGPT — into its metaverse projects.
This move is highlighted by recent job listings on Meta’s job board.
“The Generative AI landscape is evolving quickly, especially for content creation. Entirely new paradigms are being invented, and Meta is investing significantly into leading the industry,” Meta stated.
“There are advancements at Meta and across the industry, and we want to ensure we are thinking deeply about the impact these advancements could have on immersive & interactive content, especially for games, across the Metaverse,” the company added.
Meta is looking to fill various roles related to this new focus.
Some of the key positions include Emerging Tech (GenAI) experts to help design a GenAI strategy for games, a Program Manager to oversee strategic programs for GenAI Product Data Operations (PDO), and GenAI Content Managers to enhance Meta’s models and FoA integration using GenAI technology.
These roles are primarily based in Menlo Park, California, New York, and Austin.
This strategic pivot towards AI was signaled earlier when Meta decided to shut down its Workplace app, indicating a shift in focus towards metaverse and AI technologies.

Additionally, Meta has announced plans to reorganize its metaverse division, Reality Labs, into Metaverse and Wearables units. This restructuring led to some layoffs, mainly targeting leadership positions made redundant by the new organizational structure.
These developments come at a challenging time for Meta. In December, the company faced a significant decline in VR headset sales, which dropped nearly 40% in 2023. Although Meta’s Reality Labs reported over $1 billion in Q4 sales in February, it also incurred a $4.65 billion operating loss.
