Dubai-based telecommunications company du and Huawei signed an MoU for 5.5G innovation and metaverse applications during Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2023.
The two organizations will collaborate on three aspects of 5.5G: innovation, application exploration, and ecosystem development.
The exploration phase, in particular, will be oriented toward the identification of potential applications for the metaverse, holographic meetings, and XR.
The large bandwidth, low latency, and overall system capacity of 5.5G would indeed support the metaverse’s rapid development and make virtual experiences more smooth and more pleasant for users.
As a result, Huawei and du will work together to make 5.5G commercially available while also boosting connectivity and IoT scenarios.
This is not the first time the UAE has been the center of such a partnership; several initiatives have been developed in keeping with the UAE’s metaverse vision.
The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) announced the “DIFC Metaverse Platform” in January to support Web3 projects, while Mastercard, Accenture, and others attended the Dubai Metaverse Forum in September to explore the metaverse’s opportunities.
