Coinbase’s Onchain Summer, an annual event aimed at increasing Web3 adoption through on-chain art, games, and other activities built on the Base blockchain, has partnered with video game giant Atari to introduce “Onchain Arcade.” This new NFT gaming initiative seeks to revive retro arcade games.
In collaboration with Base, Stack, and several creators, Onchain Arcade allows gamers to compete in classic games such as Asteroids, a space-themed multidirectional shooter, and Breakout, where players must destroy all the bricks or blocks on the screen.
Participants can compete for leaderboard spots and rewards, including the Atari 2600+ console, merchandise, game codes, and more, through August 30.
Proceeds from game sales will be distributed among the creators who developed these games.
This collaboration marks another effort by Coinbase to enhance its annual event and draw more people into Web3. This year’s Onchain Summer, running until the end of August, marks the second edition, following its debut in 2023.
In addition to gaming, this year’s Onchain Summer will feature several activities to promote Web3 projects. This includes the submission of Web3 projects for increased visibility and a Buildathon and Grants program for builders and creators working on impactful projects.
Earlier in May, as part of the Onchain Summer, OpenSea introduced “Get Based.” This initiative highlights emerging artists on the Base blockchain, offering affordable artworks priced at $5 or less. These artworks are unveiled weekly throughout the summer on OpenSea and Farcaster. The campaign began with the release of the “Based Summer” poster.
