ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator with over half a million followers on social media, revealed on February 24 the results of a long and challenging case involving the DeGods #3251 non-fungible token (NFT). He announced that he had managed to recover most of the funds for the owner of the NFT, who had lost it to a thief.
Value of the Recovered NFT
The recovered NFT was worth 99 Ether (ETH) when it was sold, which was around $177,000 back then. The owner contacted ZachXBT in May 2023, soon after he realized that his wallet had been hacked and drained.
ZachXBT is an expert in tracing the flow of crypto assets and exposing phishing schemes. He uses simple graphics to show how the scammers operate and how he tracks them down, even when they use crypto mixers to hide their traces.
Free Services to Cease Soon
This tech guru enjoys sharing his success stories with his audience, and he stresses that recovering stolen crypto is possible, but it takes time and patience. However, he said that he plans to stop his pro bono work as a blockchain investigator soon.
His decision was influenced by the negative feedback he gets from some X users who often demand his help for free. He said that this frustration was one of the reasons why he would end his public goods work soon, but he did not specify when.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been working hard to fight against phishing scams and attacks. The SEC educates investors on how to spot and avoid these frauds.
