Atari, the third-party company for Nintendo that dominated the video game market from 1975 to the early 1980s, partnered with Republic Realm, a leader in metaverse and NFT innovation and investment, to launch a commemorative NFT collection to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The Atari NFT collection, featuring gift-wrapped NFTs, celebrates the exciting future while reminiscing about the iconic Atari 2600 console and games such as Combat, Swordquest, Asteroids, and Centipede.
The NFTs in Atari’s NFT collection are referred to as GFTs. Each GFT is an NFT built on the blockchain, wrapped in a digital box. Holders of GFTs will find out exactly what is inside their surprise gift box once they unwrap their GFTs at a specified date.
Each GFT is a limited collection, with some GFTs being rarer than others. The collection’s website states that the chances of a purchaser’s NFT being rare or epic are less than 5% and 1% respectively.
The first GFT sale will open on GFTshoppe on February 1, 2022, and each GFT collection edition will “unwrap” on a certain date, revealing the NFT presents inside.
